Our Services

Our Sunday Services are at 10:00 a.m. and last about one hour. Large print hymnals and assisted listening devices are available. Every service is followed by coffee, juice and snacks and time for visiting and asking questions. During the summer we do not have Childcare or children's religious education.

Our History

The Unitarian Universalist Church of the Lakes first met November 25, 1990, in the Delavan House Hotel. An article in the local papers had invited people who were interested in bringing liberal religion to Walworth County to meet at 10:00 a.m. Twenty people came. Very encouraging!
In March of 1991 we moved to an upstairs office space in Elkhorn that we shared with the Jaycees. We outgrew that space by August, 1992, and started renting the Masonic Lodge for our services.
History actually connected us to that place.
We learned the first Universalists in Elkhorn had owned the land in 1874. The Universalists had been meeting in Elkhorn since 1841 and had flourished until 1900. By 1919 only 13 members remained, so they sold their land to the Masons and the Catholics.
By the spring of 1993, we felt the need for a "place of our own." While we looked for a building, the
Christian Science congregation in Elkhorn felt it was time to sell.
The Christian Science congregation had rented the Universalist Church for 14 years after the Universalist congregation dwindled. That was 1901 to 1915.
The Christian Science group first organized in Elkhorn in 1894. By 1930 they built a church on North Broad Street. It was innovative with single seats and tinted windows in the hall. We bought it in June, 1993.

Our Building

Everyone always comments about our sanctuary being comfortable and welcoming. Many people have rented the Church for their weddings, child dedications or retreats. If you are interested just e-mail or call.
