Yellow Basket

Every Sunday the Yellow Basket is passed and all the money goes to the Social Action Committee.
Social Action Annual Report
2010-2011
This year's total collected through the Yellow Basket and other efforts is $ 2,073.26
After much discussion, our committee decided to help many food pantries in the area this year because of the poor economy and tremendous need right here at home.
So we donated to the following pantries:
Sharon, East Troy, Whitewater, Elkhorn, Delavan and Lake Geneva. We also delivered a food basket of collected items to the Lake Geneva Food Pantry.
Additionally, we collected warm coats and jackets for UU Mukwonago's coat collection.
Collected and sent food items and more, to the Mescalero Apache Native Americans in New Mexico.
Gave the Whitewater Unified School District money for their ESL program.
Bought fleece and made 9 blankets for the animals at Lakeland Animal Shelter, had a collection basket for food and bought additional food for the animals.
Collected and delivered food baskets to a food pantry.
Sent money to Doctors Without Borders for Haiti twice, and also sent money for Japan through that organization.
On three occasions, we prepared the meal for the Men's Homeless Shelter when it was located at the Catholic Church in Elkhorn, November, January, and May.
Sold Fair Trade coffee and chocolate.
At Christmas, we bought numerous gifts for a family of 3 children and one adult through the Association for the Prevention of Family Violence.
Also at Christmas, we gave 12 beautiful dolls, which had been donated to us, to children at Twin Oaks, APFV, and to Star Center School.
Personal items were given to Dr. Schuetz to be taken directly to the children of Haiti.
We renewed our membership in the American Institute of Philanthropy.
We sent 27 handmade sweaters to World Vision's Knit-for-Kids program. They will be distrubeted to children in our country and around the world.
Social Action sponsored the Sunday program on October 24th with a film about Heifer International. Members could purchase pieces of a puzzle that filled in an outline of a goat. Much to our surprise, we were able to not only purchase one goat but three. We hope UUgene, UUnice and Baby UUgo are all delighting people who are learning about caring for the animals and passing on the gift of any offspring to a neighbor. We sincerely hope they are making life easier for the families who received them.
